90731 San Pedro Website Los Angeles Port Police Cadet Frank Miramontes Honored for Heroic ActAll too often, the public hears about a tragic car accident that takes the life of a young person. Had it not been for the quick action and medical skills of 20-year-old Los Angeles Port Police cadet, Frank Miramontes, 18-year-old Shonte Webb’s death would have made local headlines. After losing control and sending his car into several rolls on a residential street the evening of July 7, Webb and his friends climbed out of the back window, in a daze from the crash impact. Moments later, the force of the crash took its toll on Webb, who stopped breathing and went into full cardiac arrest. First at the scene, ICU nurse Anne Kienberger knew exactly what was happening to young Mr. Webb. A block away, Miramontes heard the horrid crash and got in his car to find the crash scene. He arrived and at the direction of Kienberger, immediately began administering CPR. In the span of eight minutes, Webb “flat-lined” twice, but with the support of Kienberger, Webb was able to be revived and stabilized for ambulance transport. Despite his brushes with death at the crash scene, Webb had no other injuries and was released from the hospital within 48 hours. |
