Situated 424km north of Perth, the Port has historically been one of Australia's larger grain export Ports and today, more than half the Port’s exports are generated from minerals and iron ore. In 2007-2008 exports accounts for 96% of the Port's total trade and with the recent upgrade to berth 5, a dedicated iron ore facility, the Port is well placed to cater for the increased exporter requirements brought about by the resources boom. Supporting more than $1billion worth of trade in the Mid West, the Geraldton Port Authority (GPA) is a critical link in the economy and lifestyle of the entire region. GPA's total trade rose to 6.709 million tonnes in 2007-2008, an increase of 4.2% from the previous year. The GPA is facilitating growth for the Mid West region, encouraging trade facilitation by being a profitable, cost effective and efficient logistics provider through the use of existing and new infrastructure. |
