TX 77978 Point Comfor Website Telefon: 361-987-2813  The Port of Port Lavaca-Point Comfort serves as a gateway to world markets for the Texas Mid-Coast Region. The port plays a vital role in supporting Texas chemical manufacturing industries and in building a stable economic foundation for Calhoun County. It is served by the Matagorda Ship Channel and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Primary cargos handled are chemicals, petrochemicals, aluminum ore and agricultural fertilizer. A key part of this mix is very high value chemicals produced by area industries and sold for export to markets around the world. Governance - The public port is operated by the Calhoun Port Authority, previously known as the Calhoun County Navigation District. The Port Authority is governed by a Port Board made up of six members elected from districts within Calhoun County. The Port Director and a full-time professional staff are responsible for port management and day-to-day operations. The Port Authority is a political subdivision of the State of Texas. The Port Authority serves as the local non-federal sponsor of the Matagorda Ship Channel which extends 24 miles from the Point Comfort Turning Basin to the Gulf of Mexico. |
